Safeguarding Policy
Last updated: January 2025
Our commitment
Jadamstutor is used by children and young people across Scotland. The safety and wellbeing of every user under 18 is a priority. This policy explains the steps we take to protect young users and what parents, guardians, and teachers can expect from us.
UK Children's Code compliance
We are designed to comply with the UK Age Appropriate Design Code (Children's Code). Our approach includes:
- Age verification: We ask users to provide their date of birth on registration. Users who indicate they are under 16 trigger a parental consent workflow before their account is fully activated.
- Minimum data: We collect only the data needed to operate the platform. We do not collect or infer sensitive information from children beyond what is necessary for the revision service.
- No profiling for advertising: We do not profile children for advertising or commercial purposes.
- Privacy by default: Children's accounts are set to the most private settings by default. Progress data is not shared with third parties.
- No nudge techniques: We do not use design features that encourage children to spend more time on the platform than is appropriate for their educational needs.
- Parental visibility: With the child's approval, parents and guardians can access a progress dashboard to monitor performance without accessing personal messages or communications.
Parental consent process
When a user indicates during registration that they are under 16:
- They are asked to provide a parent or guardian email address.
- A consent email is sent to that address explaining what data is collected and how it is used.
- The parent or guardian confirms consent via a secure link in the email.
- The account is limited to read-only features until consent is confirmed.
- Parents can withdraw consent at any time by emailing safeguarding@jadamstutor.com. The account will be suspended within 24 hours.
Content safety
All AI-generated questions and feedback are reviewed before appearing in the main question bank. Our content moderation process checks for:
- Accuracy and educational appropriateness
- Age-appropriate language and topics
- Alignment with SQA curriculum standards
If you find content that you believe is inappropriate, please report it immediately to safeguarding@jadamstutor.com. We will review and remove flagged content within 24 hours.
Data protection for under-18s
Data for users under 18 is subject to additional protections:
- Data is never shared with third parties for marketing or profiling purposes.
- Data is retained only as long as the account is active. Accounts inactive for 12 months are flagged for deletion review.
- Parents and guardians can request data export or deletion at any time.
